Essential Guidelines for Your Residential Retreat
The Mettā Vipassanā Way is a direct path to mental freedom through Tranquil Wisdom Insight Meditation (TWIM). This residential retreat is a focused training ground for the deliberate implementation of the Buddha’s Brahmavihara teachings. Guided by the MettaInsight Foundation, you will master the mechanics of the mind using the 6Rs: Realize craving, Release its grip, and Relax into clarity, learning to Resmile in the face of tension and Repeat the path of Loving-Kindness until it becomes your natural state. To ensure you gain the maximum benefit from this practice, we have outlined five main guidelines covering our expectations, the nature of the practice, and how to prepare for your stay.

Please be present for every session exactly as planned. Reach the meditation hall early as discussed by the Guide. When we are on time, we show respect to the Dhamma and help the program run smoothly for everyone.
To truly experience Mettā Vipassanā, where life is meditation and meditation is life, we ask that you observe Noble Silence by switching off all digital devices and maintaining a quiet, peaceful atmosphere. This stillness allows you to focus entirely on cultivating Samatha (Tranquility) and Sati (Mindfulness) to gain deeper Vipassana (Insight). By removing these distractions, you can keep the radiant feeling of Mettā (Loving-kindness) alive throughout the entire day—whether you are walking, sitting, or eating.
You are requested not to move outside the center boundaries. Please stay within the premises and the limits set by the Guide. This journey is about going inside yourself, so please help us manage the program by staying put. We cannot spend time searching for individuals outside the gates.
You may already have your own meditation practice from elsewhere. However, while you are here, please give full respect to this specific method. This will make your stay fruitful and ensure you do not disrupt the program or the other participants. Follow the instructions exactly as given.
Walking the Mettā Vipassanā Way requires a foundation of discipline and humility, as an undisciplined mind is like an overfilled cup—unable to receive the wisdom being poured in. By following the guide’s instructions, venue rules, and meditation steps, you create the necessary space for true transformation. This mindfulness extends beyond the mat to your daily conduct: keeping your personal space clean, taking responsibility for your items, and treating service staff with genuine politeness. These actions are not mere restrictions; they are practical tools designed to shape a meaningful life, teaching you to carry the essence of your practice into every moment of your existence.
Morning Exercise: Bring a yoga mat if you wish, as we have time allocated for morning exercises.
Meditation Journaling: Bring a notebook and a pen/pencil. Logging your experience is a powerful habit for self-retrospection and tracking progress. 📝
Handling Discomfort: If you face any discomfort, reach out to the organizer or guide/teacher without hesitation for support.
Sitting Gear: You may bring your own seating cushion/mat if desired (basic support is provided). 🧘
